  2. There is no penalty for late renewal. Some individuals think that renewing their license after the expiration date is straightforward. In reality, a restoration fee applies if the renewal occurs within 60 days after expiration.
  3. Criminal background checks are optional. Many assume that background checks are not necessary. In fact, contractor renewal applicants must include a criminal background check as part of their application.
  4. Inactive licenses do not require any fees. Some may think that opting for an inactive status means no fees are due. This is incorrect; there are still renewal fees associated with inactive licenses.
  5. Proof of liability insurance is not needed for all applicants. It is a common belief that only some applicants need insurance documentation. However, all active contractor license renewals require proof of liability insurance.
  6. Reinstatement is guaranteed after termination. Some individuals think they can automatically reinstate a terminated license. This is not the case; specific conditions must be met for reinstatement.
  7. Continuing education is not mandatory for all license types. Many assume that only certain licenses require continuing education. In reality, all active license renewals require proof of eight hours of continuing education.
  8. Submitting the application is enough to ensure renewal. Some believe that simply submitting the application will guarantee renewal. However, all required documents must be submitted along with the application.
  9. There is no need for a recent photo. Many applicants overlook the requirement for a recent passport-sized color photo. This photo is necessary for the application to be processed.
  10. Defaulting on student loans does not affect licensing. Some individuals think their student loan status does not impact their ability to renew their license. However, being in default on loans backed by the KHEAA will prevent renewal.
